You’d like to become a medical professional, but you’re undecided about which discipline to choose. Maybe you’re considering Chinese medicine school, which is founded on a philosophy of healing that has been around for thousands of years. But there’s also modern medicine, which uses the latest scientific research to treat disease. You certainly don’t have to travel to China in order to attend a Chinese medicine school; there are several in just about every western nation. But which will you feel more committed to practicing? Which one does the greatest good?
What would you learn at the Chinese medicine school? Would you use medicine just as you would in the Western medical schools, or would you use natural things such as herbs and vitamins? You would use medicine in the Chinese medicine school, but you wouldn’t rely on medicine as the only means of curing the many ailments that would come across your desk. You may also use things such as acupuncture, acupressure, aromatherapy, positive thinking, and you would also use herbs, and other natural ingredients. You likely wouldn’t rely on the pharmaceutical companies as Western medicine is so used to doing.
Western medicine, unlike Chinese medicine school, relies on pharmaceuticals to cure various ailments. Some people have a problem with this as they claim there’s not enough testing to ensure these drugs are safe and there is also the problem of relying on drugs too heavily when the problem can be cured by more natural means.
As far as which one you’d enjoy more, it all depends on you. If you like history and you like learning about how our ancestors cured various ailments, you may enjoy Chinese medicine school. On the other hand, Western medicine will probably be more lucrative as there’s a lot of money in Western medicine and all the drugs they employ. Also, people will be more likely to go to a Western medical doctor rather than a doctor who went to Chinese medicine school as most people trust Western medicine, at least here in the states, more than any other culture’s medical practices.
Decide which one you’d like more and don’t make this decision based on money. While it’s true you want to make a good living to support your family, you can do that with both disciplines. But going into the medical field is about more than money, it’s about helping others in need and feeling good about that for many reasons other than how much it’s going to pad your pocket.
